Christian Evolutionists

This article is scheduled to be rewritten to focus more on the conflict between worldviews of theistic evolution, and less focus on the science behind (which is produced as a result of the differing worldviews) a creationist perspective, though some will still be mentioned as stepping points to exploration of creationist science. This rewrite will commence following the completion of an article on presuppositions/worldviews which ties in to this article.

"For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it." - Exodus 20:11

Simply stated, Evolution is the belief that we are the descendents of pond scum. As someone that believes that the entire Bible down to the last jot and tittle is inspired and would not be there if God did not deem it to be, I find evolution (to put it bluntly) to be one of the biggest crack-ups science has produced. As such, I also find it extremely difficult to comprehend how a Christian can be an evolutionist. Not only does evolution oppose scripture, it totally dismisses the notion of God. This is besides the fact that unlike evolution, the Genesis creation explains why we die, exactly how we got here and why certain things look like they do and happen like they do. So below are my reasons as to why a Christian should not be evolutionist.

Reason #1 - Jesus believed in Creation

Yes that's right, Jesus was creationist. He believed that God made Heaven and Earth. After all, he is God. And if God tells us it is true, do we dare think the opposite? Observe the following verses were Jesus undeniably shows he believes (knows) in creation:

"But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female." - Mark 10:6 From the beginning of the creation not evolution, God made, not astronomical chance and genetic mutation.

"For in those days shall be affliction, such as was not from the beginning of the creation which God created unto this time, neither shall be." - Mark 13:19 Once again, the word creation is used. Why would the word creation be used if Heaven and Earth were not created?

Reason #2 - Evolution is the belief of Atheism

It is impossible for an atheist to believe in creation. After all, he believes that he is not answerable to God. Therefore, he must produce his own origin of the human race to prove it, as to be an atheist but believe that he was created is a contradiction. So if he wasn't created, how does he prove that he is right. Simple. He makes up his own theory! He doesn't have to use scripture to back it up, because he doesn't believe in the scriptures. They come from God and he doesn't believe in God. All he has to do is dig up a few fossils, make some sketches of 'intermediate' species (of which no fossils have currently been found) and hey presto! Instant proof. Then all he has to do is explain away how it can contradict physical laws (such as the second law of thermodynamics - look it up or ask someone who knows) and he is away laughing (until he dies, then he'll be weeping and ganshing his teeth. I'd rather have to face the weeping now and do the laughing and smiling in the next life personally). We as Christians are not atheists, we do believe in God, and evolution is clearly the origin belief of a godless religion.

Reason #3 - Science points to a young Earth

By doing a little bit of Maths we can work out the creation to be about 6,000 years ago (by taking a known date, such as something from Abraham's life, and working back adding the years of the patriarchs together (where they don't overlap) to get our total). Many would dismiss this as fiction, after all no one lives to 969 years to day so why should they now? (I will get round to explaining why it's possible eventually.) Interesting to discover therefore that science (the good sort) supports a young Earth - Evidence For A Young Sun The Earth's Magnetic Field Is Young Anomolous Potassium-Argon Ages At Mt. Ngaruhoe, New Zealand (this one is heavy.) With so much scientific evidence pointing towards creation, not evolution plus the testimony of the Bible, how could you not believe in creation?

Reason #4 - Dismiss Genesis 1-12 and you can throw the rest out

This is the biggest reason and as such is why it is last (save the best for last). The problem that Christians who believe in evolution have is that they are dismissing major parts of the Bible. Genesis 1-12 explains how we got here, the origin of sin, and how it came into the world. It is the site of the first prophecy of Christ (Genesis 3:15) and explains how we are all related (distantly) to each other. But this is not the only problem with dismissing the first twelve chapters of Genesis.

If you say that a part of the Bible is wrong because you don't agree with it, then you are saying that you don't believe that the Bible is the Final Authority on all matters and is perfect. By this line of reasoning you may not like the fact that all men are sinners, so you can remove it. Or you may not like the fact that the Bible states that women are more easily deceived as you believe it is wrong, so you can get rid of those verses. You may not like the fact that drinking heavily (something many men do, especially in New Zealand) is shunned upon (bearing in mind also that what they drank then was about a quarter the strength of a glass of wine today), so you remove any verses that pertain to the foolishness of getting drunk or being a winebibber. Or most seriously, you may decide that you don't like the idea of being accountable to a God. So hey, what's that, all the remainder. Oh well, so much for the Bible and Christianity. Do you get the drift? The actions just detailed are those that Satan performed in his very first act of bible correction (by subtracting from God's Word). All he had to do was change it just enough so that Eve would believe what he said (the Nazi's did this very well - you have just enough truth to make it palatable, and slip the lie inside). 'Yea hath God said' began the course of sin through this world. It was the very first act of the greatest of all the deniers of God's authority. Of course, if you don't believe Genesis 1-12 is right then you don't have to believe what I've just said, do you? But reading all that you just have, would you still be able to? Think carefully before answering.

Conclusion

It is impossible for a Christian to believe in Evolution and still believe the rest of the Bible is correct, and therefore, that Christianity is correct. Not only does the Biblical evidence stack against it, but the scientific evidence as well (especially as it is science that has caused the Christian to compromise his Bible to meet supposedly good, correct science) points to a young Earth and creation. Jesus, the man to whom we should all be trying to be more like even spoke of his creating the World. The Christian therefore has no course available to him/her but to repent and to believe the bible in its entirety.
